This year’s SHSMD Conference, taking place in Orlando, September 30 – October 3, 2009, promises to be a great event. If you only travel to one healthcare marketing conference throughout the year, this is one to consider. SHSMD is the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (www.shsmd.org). The 2008 meeting in San Francisco drew more than 1,200 individuals, a combination of healthcare marketing, strategy, communications, and public relations professionals.
Recently I received word from SHSMD that I have been selected to conduct a presentation at the fall conference. My topic will be marketing patient safety and hand hygiene within a medical center. David Fairchild, MD, the Chief Medical Officer at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, will be my co-presenter. You don’t often get to see a chief medical officer presenting at one of these marketing conference, not to mention speaking about patient safety. Dr. Fairchild will review Tufts’ current hand hygiene program – an initiative that has driven hand hygiene compliance from 72% to 99% within the medical center. It’s an amazing story and there are plenty of lessons to be learned from their example.
I hope to see you in Orlando. Once the conference brochure has been produced, I’ll share some of the information through additional posts. Stay tuned.
