I’m a subscriber to Infection Control Today (ICT) magazine, and follow it online as often as possible to stay current on infection control issues – with hand hygiene being one of my favorite topics of late. A couple of months ago I was reading a post on Kelly Pyrek’s blog, she’s the Editor in Chief of Infection Control Today magazine, and she was asking for examples of effective hand hygiene initiatives to be featured in their June 2009 issue. So, I sent her some information about the hand hygiene program we developed in partnership with Tufts Medical Center, and gave her contact information for the appropriate people at Tufts.
The result: Kelly ended up including the Tufts hand hygiene campaign in the June issue of Infection Control Today magazine. The lesson: Reading blogs really does pay off. The campaign is featured in a section of the publication titled “Hand Hygiene Strategies” that runs from pages 40 to 50. Along with the Tuft story, there are stories from institutions from Illinois to Saudi Arabia.
Infection control often ends up being a challenge that marketers are asked to help handle. I recommend checking out Infection Control Today online at www.infectioncontroltoday.com. And start sharing success stories with others in your organization. It will certainly elevate your stature with the people in your infection control department.
