In the January 7th issue of HealthLeaders Media Marketing Weekly, Gienna Shaw’s lead article is titled “100 Ways for Hospitals, Health Systems to Twitter.” If Twitter is a totally alien concept, you need to check out Gienna’s article. And if you don’t get this free weekly enewsletter from HealthLeaders, you can go to this link and subscribe. Of all the email blasts that I subscribe to, this is one that I make sure I review when it arrives in my inbox.
In Gienna’s article she gives examples of Twitter practices from Backus Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and ScrippsHealth. She also points out some common Twitter mistakes (that can be very helpful to have in mind). This article is a follow-up on an earlier piece that you can access by clicking this link. The article was titled: “Twitter a Healthcare Marketing Tool? Maybe.”
If you’re interested in a list of hospitals using Twitter, Ed Bennett, director of web strategy for the University of Maryland Medical System, maintains a list via the Twitter Hospital Group.

Thank you for the mention in this post. There are two more lists that may be useful to your readers:
1. The Medical Student Blog has a well-maintained and organized list of over 250 twitter accounts in different health care categories. It’s a great resource if you are looking for people to follow in our field.

2. I maintain the Hospital Social Network List, with over 100 hospitals that have YouTube, Facebook or Twitter accounts. Links are provided to the hospitals website, and their social networks.
